Peringamala gearing up to host Niravu farm fete

Peringamala gram panchayat is preparing to host the district panchayat's farm festival 'Niravu' from September 10, in collaboration with the Agriculture department. One of the key attractions of the event, set against the backdrop of the picturesque Western Ghats, is a sprawling two-acre sunflower farm. The farm boasts over 10,000 sunflower plants, creating a vibrant yellow landscape that offers prime spots for visitors to capture selfies.

Adjacent to the sunflower farm, a wooden bridge perches atop a 30-foot-tall rock, while a hut has been constructed for visitors to relax and admire the scenery, particularly the sunflower farm. Environmentally friendly seating has been arranged nearby, providing a serene space for attendees to unwind and soak in the natural beauty surrounding the festival.

Food stalls offering local delicacies cater to visitors' culinary needs, and an Onam corner allows children to continue celebrating the festive season post-festival. Swing sets add to the overall enjoyment for attendees of all ages. Special farm corners, where visitors can buy planting materials, are set up, allowing them to take home seeds and saplings.

To facilitate smooth navigation, jeeps are available for visitors to explore the sunflower farm. The festival also features farm seminars and discussions, along with cultural programs, including ganamela and theater performed by women. 'Krishipathashala' offers educational sessions for children, while a women farmers' meet takes place against the backdrop of 2026 being designated as the International Year of the Woman Farmer.

Additionally, farm-related games are organized by the Agriculture department staff to engage festival-goers in a fun and interactive manner.
