Penn State football, Matt Campbell name team captains vs Marshall

Penn State football has opted for a game-by-game approach to team captain selection this season, as announced by new head coach Matt Campbell. For their upcoming season opener against Marshall in Beaver Stadium on Saturday, the team has named Rocco Becht as quarterback, Anthony Donkoh as offensive lineman, Kooper Ebel as linebacker, and Blaise Sokach-Minnick as long snapper.

Becht and Ebel are Iowa State transfers who joined Campbell's staff from Iowa State. Donkoh, a longtime starter and part of the staff, will take over at right tackle, while Sokach-Minnick, a returner, assumes the snapping responsibilities this year. With his 39 career starts and 26 victories, Becht is the most experienced returning quarterback in the nation.

Donkoh plans to fill the right tackle position after spending most of his previous time at guard. Honorary captain Robbie Gould, a former Penn State standout and NFL star kicker, will represent Marshall in the game, with an expected influx of former Penn State lettermen in attendance. Campbell mentioned earlier that the team was still finalizing the captain positions and anticipated a decision later in the season.
