Pakistan Again Says No To High Priced LNG Cargo

Pakistan has once again declined an offer for a high-priced liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipment, this instance from BP Singapore at a rate of $26.7128 per MMBtu. This comes at a time when global LNG prices and shipping costs are escalating, compounded by uncertainty surrounding the Strait of Hormuz. The bid was one of two received by Pakistan LNG Limited for deliveries between September 8 and 12, the other being a $26.98 per MMBtu offer from PetroChina.

Pakistan's previous denials included turning down a BP Singapore offer of $26.969 per MMBtu for deliveries from September 4 to 8. The nation's decision to shun these high-priced LNG cargoes is due to the increasing expenses associated with higher freight, insurance, and risk premiums linked to geopolitical tensions. This leaves the Pakistani government with a challenging decision: to secure sufficient LNG supplies or to avoid the costly purchases that could drive up electricity generation expenses.
