Osun Police arrest three suspected drug traffickers

On August 30, 2026, police in Osun State made an arrest concerning a suspected drug trafficking operation. In the town of Ife North, located within the state, authorities uncovered a cache of suspected Indian hemp concealed within an abandoned Toyota Sienna Space Bus. This incident unfolded during a routine patrol conducted by members of the Violence Crime Response Unit, specifically Team E.

The suspects, comprising three males, were apprehended as they were in the vicinity of the roadside. According to a police statement, the suspicious vehicle, a silver-colored Toyota Sienna Space Bus with registration number BGT 81 OLG, had reportedly broken down and was abandoned. The command provided further details, stating that the vehicle's driver, Awo Omotayo, aged 38, along with another individual, Abayomi Suleiman, aged 22, were present when the bus was discovered.

Upon closer inspection, officers found five bags of suspected Indian hemp inside the vehicle. Omotayo, the primary suspect, allegedly informed the police that he had been contracted by an individual named "Baba Ibo" to transport the suspected illicit substance to Ogbomoso in Oyo State. The statement revealed that "Baba Ibo" operates from Garage Olode, also within Osun State, and possessed the contact information of the intended recipient in Ogbomoso.

The commissioner of police, Ibrahim Zungura, expressed that further investigation would be carried out to ascertain the source and ultimate recipient of the suspected illicit substance. The police also noted that efforts were underway to locate "Baba Ibo" and other individuals connected to the case. The command urged the public to come forward with any credible information that could aid in apprehending the suspects and prevent the illicit trafficking of prohibited substances.
