OpenAI’s $1 Billion Cyber Push Backs Cloudflare and SentinelOne. Which Has the Better AI Security Model?

On September 3, OpenAI announced its $1 billion commitment to subsidize Daybreak access, training, technical support and partnerships through the Daybreak Defense Network. This network now includes over 35 enterprise products and partner-operated services. Cloudflare and SentinelOne are both leveraging this program to enhance their AI security models.

Cloudflare offers invitation-only access to an AI vulnerability-discovery and remediation service built with GPT-5.6 Cyber. This service operates at the network and developer edge, combining authorized source-code analysis with traffic and security context. Cloudflare proposes code patches and WAF mitigations for customer review, creating a credible cross-sell path.

However, monetization is a challenge with early access not yet general availability and subsidized services needing proof of usefulness and willingness to pay. Cloudflare's premium valuation leaves little room for long gaps between product attention and revenue.

SentinelOne, on the other hand, is adding Daybreak models to its Wayfinder services, which are used by security teams for code-risk assessment, compromise investigation, and malware analysis. Wayfinder can place AI inside workflows, but the offering may scale less efficiently than software if heavily dependent on expert labor. SentinelOne faces competition from platforms like Microsoft, CrowdStrike, and Palo Alto Networks, which can bundle adjacent tools.

The August 14 settlement revealed 7.43 million NET shares sold short, about 2.35% of its float, indicating potential short-term operation-focused concerns.

Both Cloudflare and SentinelOne enter the program with different routes to revenue. Cloudflare's model starts at the network and developer edge, offering a cleaner platform leverage. SentinelOne's model focuses more on the security workflow. The real standard for success will be paid conversion and gross-margin contribution, with false-positive rates playing a crucial role.

Security buyers will not tolerate tools that produce overwhelming analyses, propose unsafe code changes, or lack documentation for their conclusions. Execution at scale remains the key to determining which model is better, and investors may find greater upside potential and less downside risk in other AI stocks.
