The Eastern Region's Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, alongside other officials, inspected several rural telephony project sites and community ICT centers, identifying connectivity challenges that necessitate coordinated interventions.
In rural areas like Akuapem South District, residents expressed frustration over poor or non-existent mobile network coverage, hindering communication and access to digital services. Minister George assured that offline rural telephony sites would be restored and called for the upgrading of all Rural Telephony Project sites to at least 4G, as 2G and 3G connections are insufficient in light of advancing technology.
He stressed the importance of investing in telecommunications infrastructure alongside other essential services like roads and hospitals. George projected that rural communications services will become more affordable than those in urban areas by Q1 2027.
