Environment Canada predicts that very heavy rainfall will persist through Saturday and Sunday, with localized flooding expected across the island.

Rainfall rates of up to 20 millimetres per hour are anticipated in certain areas, with a total accumulation of up to 200 millimetres possible. Cape Breton Regional Municipality has reported several roads in the Sydney and Glace Bay regions closed due to the flooding. Social media users have shared videos showcasing water inundating roadways and breaching barriers.

The national weather agency has cautioned that there is potential for damage to critical infrastructure in affected areas.
