Navi Mumbai Ganeshotsav 2026: NMMC Chief Dr Kailas Shinde Orders Drive Against Hawkers, Paan Shops Near Schools

Navi Mumbai's Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde has initiated a special enforcement drive ahead of Ganeshotsav 2026. The drive aims to remove unauthorized hawkers, clear abandoned vehicles, and shut down paan shops within 50 meters of schools and colleges. Ward offices are instructed to ensure pedestrian pathways are unobstructed.

Licensed hawkers will be relocated to designated areas, while unauthorized hawkers will face consequences. Shinde emphasized that footpaths, roads, and public spaces must remain accessible and safe for citizens. The enforcement drive will be continuous, with special focus on schools, hospitals, railway stations, and markets. The civic body will also increase night-time enforcement against unauthorized food stalls.

Abandoned vehicles on roads and at railway stations will also be targeted through a separate drive. The Ganeshotsav preparations have been intensified, with plans to repair potholes, trim trees, ensure arrangements at immersion ponds, improve street lighting, and remove unauthorized banners. The police will cooperate fully in the enforcement efforts.
