Mercedes drags motorist 2 km in South Goa before bursting into flames

A tragic accident occurred in South Goa on Friday when a Mercedes car allegedly struck a motorcyclist, dragging the cyclist for nearly two kilometers before bursting into flames. The Mercedes car's driver, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol, has been apprehended. Police have identified the deceased as Ashok Chavan, who was pronounced dead at the hospital after sustaining fatal injuries.

The pillion rider, Sonu Kumar, also suffered injuries and is currently receiving treatment. The incident, which took place around 2 pm in Sancoale, occurred after the Mercedes dragged the motorcyclist for a considerable distance following the collision. A passerby managed to extricate the driver from the burning vehicle, potentially saving him from suffering severe burns.

The Mercedes driver, identified as Vidhyadhar Prabhu, was arrested the same night and has been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder. An FIR has been filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, for charges including rash driving, culpable homicide, and endangering the life or personal safety of others.
