Malappuram DDC urges Centre to drop Palakkad rail division split

The Malappuram District Development Committee (DDC) has strongly opposed the plan to divide the Palakkad Railway Division, urging the Railway Board and the central government to abandon the proposal. The suggested division would see the Mangaluru-Ullal railway line moved from the Palakkad division to the Mysuru division. The DDC argues that this change would negatively impact rail development and passenger services in Malappuram, north Malabar, and Kasaragod regions.

A resolution presented by Gafur Kurumadan, representing Public Works Minister P.K. Basheer, warns that the change could impede new train services, additional stops, and infrastructure projects in the area. Mr. Navas, an MLA, praised the police for maintaining order at Unnyal beach following recent political unrest and called on the Tirur Sub-Collector to take further action, including arrests if necessary, to remove unauthorized political structures and installations.

The Sub-Collector announced that the Revenue authorities would clear any remaining items after Sunday, September 6, 2026. MLAs T.V. Ibrahim, Abid Hussain Thangal, and P.M.A. Sameer urged the Regional Transport Officer to resolve issues caused by long-distance buses obstructing service roads along National Highway 66. The District Medical Officer reported H1N1, leptospirosis, and dengue cases increasing amid changing weather, but stated that the situation remained under control.

Mr. Ibrahim also requested the restoration of roads damaged during Jal Jeevan Mission works at Vallikkunnu, while Mr. Thangal pushed for faster progress on the Puthoor-Chenakkal bypass project and the proposed fire station at Valanchery. M. Rahmathulla, an MLA, requested officials to expedite the survey for the Manjeri-Olipuzha road and fill vacant positions if staff shortages were hindering progress.

The meeting honored three panchayat secretaries for their work in project implementation and seven village officers for their performance.
