Lagos to reconstruct Ikoyi intersections in six months

The Lagos State Government has announced plans to reconstruct two major intersections near the Ikoyi area, with completion expected within six months. This initiative aims to alleviate chronic traffic congestion and enhance movement in the densely populated business and residential district. The two sites, Parkview and Banana Island, are set to commence shortly, with the state government collaborating with residents, contractors, traffic managers, utility providers, and other stakeholders to ensure minimal disruption during construction.

State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, stated that the government prioritizes these intersections to address traffic challenges around Ikoyi. Although some administrative procedures need completion, the projects are expected to be finished within the six-month timeframe. Construction will be adjusted according to traffic patterns to minimize impact on daily activities, with workers slowing down during peak periods and increasing efforts during lower traffic volumes.

The government is working with Julius Berger and other agencies to ensure proper coordination, with telecommunications and other critical stakeholders also involved. Residents, including the Parkview Residents Association and the Banana Island Association, have expressed enthusiasm about the project, as the 90-degree turn at the estate entrances has caused significant congestion.
