King Misuzulu laments exclusion from SADC Summit in KwaZulu-Natal

AmaZulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini has expressed his displeasure at being excluded from significant events, such as the 46th Southern African Development Community (SADC) Summit, which took place in KwaZulu-Natal in August. The King contends that hosting major gatherings in his province without acknowledging his presence is a form of disrespect.

He made these remarks at the eMachobeni Royal Palace in Ngwavuma, where a large number of young women were participating in the annual uMkhosi Womhlanga, or Reed Dance. Earlier, the 1st Deputy Secretary General, Cde Nomvula Mokonyane, had attended the Reed Dance at the eMachobeni Royal Palace, joining the community to celebrate this cultural and heritage event.

The King congratulated all the young women who participated in this year's ceremony. In the coming week, the Reed Dance will be held at two royal residences, with the second event scheduled for the eMashobeni Royal Palace in uPhongolo. During Saturday's event, the King addressed the attendees and questioned their decision to hold important events like the Mining Indaba and SADC in Durban without inviting him.

He emphasized that as the custodian of the land, he feels disrespected when his palace is used for meetings without prior notification. The King also referenced a recent visit by an official from Nigeria, who inquired about the South African government's reluctance to involve him. The King believes that this lack of engagement is working against the government and urged them to stop hiding him.
