Infighting in Kerala Congress: MLA Ramya Haridas attacked over WhatsApp post

A scuffle erupted in Chirayinkeezhu, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, on Friday night between Congress MLA Ramya Haridas and local party workers. Haridas was injured in the altercation and received medical attention at a nearby hospital. She claimed she was attacked and threatened by local Congress leaders, while party members Sajith Muttambalam and Sajad stated that Haridas and her associates confronted them over a WhatsApp post.

Police registered cases against seven Congress workers, including Sajith and Sajad, under specific laws. The dispute reportedly started over the participation of Haridas’ staff member Palayam Pradeep in a block panchayat committee meeting. Haridas maintained Pradeep as her personal assistant, while Sajad claimed the role belonged to Vimal.

Haridas alleged that negative remarks were made about her on WhatsApp and social media by Sajad, who invited her to his house to resolve the issue. Haridas and her companions went, where Haridas claims Sajith, Adheesh, Binoy, and others arrived, behaving aggressively and threatening her. Sajad alleged that the leaders conspired to "destroy" them, with Sajith threatening she would not be able to walk back the way she had come. A separate case was to be registered based on Sajad's complaint.
