I put Tecno's zero-bezel phone next to an iPhone 17 Pro Max — the difference is wild

Tecno, the smartphone manufacturer known for its innovative concepts, has unveiled a new prototype phone with a nearly bezel-less design at the IFA 2026 trade show. This concept phone, which features a 6.78-inch display, effectively eliminates the black border around the screen, making the display appear to stretch all the way to the edges of the device. The company claims that this is strictly a concept device, but it provides a glimpse into what the future of smartphone displays might look like.

Compared to the iPhone 17 Pro Max, the Tecno concept phone offers an even more pronounced reduction in bezels. While the iPhone already boasts incredibly thin bezels at around 1.36 mm, the difference becomes more apparent when the two devices are placed side by side. The Tecno design, however, has taken this innovation further, utilizing a unique inverted screen assembly process that allows the display module to be inserted from the back of the phone.

Despite the impressive bezel-less display, the rest of the concept phone does not offer groundbreaking features. Tecno did not reveal any other notable specifications or improvements beyond the display. Still, the lightweight design of the phone, which felt surprisingly light in the hand, is somewhat surprising given its compact size and the inclusion of a massive 6,000 mAh battery.

The phone is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300e chipset, which is geared more towards providing a basic level of performance rather than excelling in benchmark tests.

While the concept phone showcases Tecno's commitment to pushing the boundaries of smartphone design, it is unlikely to see a mass-market release. The company has made it clear that this is a prototype device intended to demonstrate the potential of a nearly bezel-less display. However, the success of this concept could set the stage for future innovations in smartphone design, potentially leading to more sleek and immersive mobile experiences for consumers.
