Government to fast-track road infrastructure projects in Annamayya, says Minister

Minister for Roads and Buildings B.C. Janardhan Reddy announced that the State government has initiated efforts to expedite road and transport infrastructure projects in Annamayya district. The Minister emphasized the importance of maintaining high quality and safety standards during these projects. During a visit to Rayachoti, the district capital, Reddy directed officials to complete already sanctioned road works within deadlines and resolve issues related to tenders, land acquisition, and pending bills.

The district of Annamayya boasts 2,042 km of State highways, major district roads, and other rural roads. Among the ongoing projects, 81 sanctioned works have already started, although payments for completed works are still pending. Reddy instructed officials to accelerate bill clearances and commence the pending projects promptly.

In terms of specific projects, the Minister reviewed the National Highway (NH) work, including the Rayachoti-Vempalli NH-440 project, which is 95% complete on the physical front and 90% on the financial side. The cost of this project was ₹241.69 crore. Additionally, a proposal for a four-lane tunnel between km 211/500 and 217/200 on the Rayachoti-Kadapa NH-40 corridor, along with its approaches, is being considered at an estimated cost of ₹1,000 crore, with soil exploration currently underway.

On the transport front, Minister for Transport and Sports Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy separately assessed revenue, digital services, and road safety conditions in the district. He reported that the Transport department's revenue had risen by 8.41% to ₹110.45 crore in 2025-26. The numbers for road accidents, fatalities, and injuries showed a positive trend, with a decrease of 10.34%, 9.86%, and 12.96% respectively, from January to August 2026 compared to the same period in the previous year.

The Transport Minister also encouraged officials to enhance digital services, bolster road-safety measures, and address challenges faced by vehicle owners at fitness-testing centers.
