FRSC blames excessive speeding, dangerous driving for Osun crash

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, in Osun State has blamed excessive speeding and dangerous driving for a fatal road accident that occurred on the Ife-Ilesa Expressway on Saturday. The crash, which took place at Tonkere town, resulted in three deaths and 20 injuries, according to the Osun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Sunday Adebayo. The victims included two females, one male, and three children - two boys and one girl.

Adebayo stated that the collision involved 23 people, with 11 females and nine males, in addition to the three children. He warned motorists against engaging in dangerous driving behaviors that can endanger the lives of other road users. The FRSC quickly deployed patrol teams from Ife and Ilesa to the scene to carry out rescue operations and manage the aftermath of the collision.

The sector commander noted that emergency response to the accident commenced within minutes after the agency received information about the incident from a member of the public.

The three deceased victims were transported to a police station in Ife for further examination, while the injured were taken for medical attention. Some of the victims sustained minor injuries and were discharged, while others required more extensive treatment. Following the crash, the vehicles involved were removed from the road to resume normal traffic flow along the affected section of the expressway.

Adebayo urged motorists to reduce their speed and exercise caution, as lower speeds could significantly reduce the severity of injuries and fatalities in case of a crash. He also emphasized the shared responsibility of all road users and reiterated the FRSC's commitment to public enlightenment campaigns and other road safety initiatives in Osun State to reduce crashes and prevent avoidable deaths on the roads.
