Farage has been under intense scrutiny regarding the donations Reform has received, including £5 million from a wealthy benefactor. The footage emerged as part of an investigation by an undercover group named Verbatim, which posed as an American donor and his son seeking to funnel money to Reform. The party has been reported to the police for potential criminal offenses related to accepting donations from foreign entities, including in-kind donations such as polling.

Several party figures, including Dan Jukes and James Orr, have stepped down pending an internal investigation into their appearances in the footage. Farage repeatedly maintained that the party had not broken any laws and dismissed Jukes's comments as "loose pub talk."
