Expired curd, bed bug spray: What Bengaluru food safety raid on PGs found

The Karnataka Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) has expanded its inspections to pay guest (PG) accommodations in Bengaluru, issuing warnings to 23 out of 64 facilities. Inspectors examined food preparation and storage practices, shelf life, kitchen cleanliness, the quality of food items, raw material storage, and food labeling.

During the inspections, expired curd, substandard powder, rice flour, synthetic food coloring, black pepper, and mislabeled items were discovered at various PGs. One PG in Bommasandra had a bed bug repellent on a dining table along with food, while non-food items were stored near drinking water sources, leading to the sealing of the dining area.

The FSDA has now instructed all PG owners and food handlers to adhere strictly to food safety and hygiene regulations.
