Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Edwin Diaz, currently without the closer role pending further evaluation, showcased his best live batting practice session yet, as per manager Dave Roberts. The positive outcome suggests that Diaz could be on the path to a return, with a rehab assignment potentially commencing shortly after the recent live session held on Friday.

The team's diagnosis of his neck inflammation indicates a possible link to a mechanical issue. Should the minor league schedule fall short, Diaz would need to continue exhibiting his skills through additional live sessions before regaining a spot in the bullpen.

In the meantime, Tanner Scott maintains the closer position due to his consistent performance throughout the season. However, Diaz possesses the talent and potential to reclaim the role with a series of strong performances. His focus remains on command, as it has been a significant area of concern since his elbow surgery last year. Though his fastball has regained strength, his movement and command were deemed insufficient during a recent appearance against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field.

Diaz, known for his reliability as a closer, retains the belief that he can revert to his previous self. He is confident, stating that signing with the Dodgers was primarily to take on the closer role.
