Dissolving inactive SOE boards is justified – Dennis Miracles Aboagye

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the Director of Communications for the Bawumia Campaign Team, has supported the government's decision to dissolve boards of state-owned enterprises (SOEs). Aboagye argued that many of these boards have failed to show significant impact, and the government should prioritize delivering on its mandate rather than retaining appointees who are not benefiting the state institutions.

Speaking on JoyNews' Newsfile, Aboagye said he sees no issue with the government replacing appointees if they believe new leadership is necessary to achieve its objectives. "For me, I don't see anything wrong with the appointor, disappointing. I mean, I don't think we should even waste our time. Ultimately, we expect the government to deliver.

Who they choose to set where to get it done, that's their business," he stated on Saturday, September 5. Aboagye highlighted disputes between some chief executives and board members as evidence of the challenges in the governance of certain state institutions. One example he provided was a board where a conflict arose between the chief executive and four board members regarding travel arrangements for family members.

He also raised concerns about the privileges granted to some board members, such as requests for vehicles and other benefits, questioning whether these practices indicate a lack of focus on the boards' institutional mandates. The government recently dissolved the boards of nine SOEs, including Prestea Sankofa Gold Limited, BOST, VALCO, CBG, Ghana Post Company Limited, the Road Maintenance Trust Fund, TDC Ghana Limited, GNPC, and NSA.
