Costa: EU Will Increase Pressure On Russia Until It Stops The Killing

European Council President António Costa announced that the European Union will intensify pressure on Russia until it ceases the violence and shows a genuine dedication to peace. This announcement came after a meeting with Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev in Sofia, as reported by UATV English, citing the European Council's press service.

Costa stressed that Europe's security hinges on the expansion of the Union. Ukraine, Moldova, and the Western Balkans are all part of the European Union, and each nation progresses based on its merits and is treated equally. Costa emphasized that this is the most crucial geopolitical investment the European Union can and must make.

He also noted that while candidate countries must carry out necessary reforms and honor previous commitments, it is equally vital for the EU to engage in productive dialogue and acknowledge the progress accomplished.

Costa further highlighted the significance of continuous joint efforts to aid Ukraine in its conflict against Russia and reiterated Russia's progressively hostile attitude towards the EU. He stressed that the EU's dedication to supporting Ukraine in its self-defense and quest for a just and enduring peace remains unwavering. Costa also pointed out that Russia's hostile actions extend beyond Ukraine, including drone attacks on EU borders, cyberattacks, disruptions to essential infrastructure, and attempts to undermine democracies. Costa emphasized that Russia must cease this war, refrain from escalating it.

The EU will not back down and will escalate pressure on Russia until it halts the killing and demonstrates genuine commitment to peace, Costa concluded. He affirmed that threats and intimidation from Russia will not undermine the EU's resolve to support Ukraine "for as long as it takes, until a just and lasting peace is achieved."
