Checking in on the Yankees’ August additions, one month later

One month after the New York Yankees' August additions, it's time to assess their performance. Luis García Jr., a lefty slugger acquired near the trade deadline, has been the most successful addition. The 26-year-old has hit .292/.337/.500 with five home runs and a 132 wRC+ since joining the team. His performance has been a valuable asset, especially during periods when the Yankees lacked key power hitters, such as Aaron Judge.

However, the addition of outfielder Heliot Ramos has not been as fruitful. Ramos has struggled, posting a .141/.286/.266 batting line, a 27.3% strikeout rate, a 61 wRC+, and a -0.5 fWAR. Despite his poor showing, there is hope for improvement. Ramos has shown flashes of potential, hitting .227/.370/.455 and a 136 wRC+ since August 20. With some time to adjust, he could become a fine hitter with power.

George Lombard Jr., the shortstop acquired from Triple-A Scranton, has also had a significant impact on the team. He started his MLB tenure strong, showcasing impressive defensive plays and two home runs in his first four games. Lombard's offensive performance has cooled slightly, but he returned to the lineup after recovering from a knee injury. The Yankees are committed to developing Lombard, recognizing his potential to become a long-term impact player offensively, defensively, and on the basepaths.
