Brenner climbs to victory in Vuelta stage 14, Mas retains red jersey

SIERRA DE LA PANDERA, Spain - German cyclist Marco Brenner secured his first stage victory in the Vuelta a Espana on Saturday, edging out Colombian Santiago Buitrago in a decisive sprint up the final ascent to Sierra de La Pandera. Brenner successfully launched his final attack as he surged ahead during the climb, marking the first Grand Tour stage win for the Tudor rider.

Spanish leader Enric Mas (Movistar) of Spain chose not to challenge the stage, finishing 25 seconds behind Roglic (Red Bull–Bora–Hansgrohe) who dropped to third place overall. Austrian Felix Gall (Decathlon CMA CGM) finished second overall, trailing Brenner by two minutes and six seconds in the race for the red jersey. Brenner admitted to struggling with sickness earlier in the race and a crash, but he expressed his determination to prove himself and his teammates after the incident.
