Bienvenidos al “patriarcado mediterráneo”: el exgeneral Vannacci pone en jaque a la derecha italiana

Italian retired general Roberto Vannacci, 57, who made headlines in 2023 with his book "The World Upside Down," a bestseller filled with racist, sexist, and homophobic sentiments, is no longer an exotic newcomer in Italian politics. In February, he abandoned the Liga party, which had signed him up for the European elections with hopes of assimilating him, and established his own party, Futuro National (FN).

Vannacci has already recruited eight defectors from the ruling parties, calling themselves "futurists," and a nod to the 1920s. In June, he convened his inaugural congress, and in recent weeks, he published a lengthy program in two parts, causing significant uproar. His vision for society is something he calls the "Mediterranean Patriarchy," which he describes as targeting the marginalized, fostering strong men capable of controlling their emotions and passions, protecting women, and offering themselves for the construction and defense of society.
