Bhupesh Baghel removed as AICC Punjab in-charge, Sachin Pilot brought in

On September 5, 2026, the Congress party replaced Bhupesh Baghel with Sachin Pilot as general secretary for Punjab, transferring Baghel to the same role in Assam. Meanwhile, Randeep Singh Surjewala took over as general secretary for Gujarat, though he retained his position for Karnataka, which recently saw a smooth leadership change.

AICC general secretary K.C. Venugopal announced these appointments, stating that the party president has reorganized the positions for various states. Additional appointments include Sukhdeo Bhagat for Chhattisgarh, Dr. Sirivella Prasad for Maharashtra, and P V Mohan for Andhra Pradesh. The outgoing general secretaries, Jitendra Singh, Ramesh Chennithala, and Manickam Tagore, were appreciated for their contributions. Mukul Wasnik will continue as the general secretary for the AICC.
