ASML vs. Taiwan Semiconductor: Which Semiconductor Monopoly Is the Safer Investment?

ASML Holding (NASDAQ: ASML) and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (NYSE: TSM) are two of the most powerful semiconductor companies in the world. While ASML has a monopoly on an essential machine for chip production, TSMC is the only company with enough production capacity to manufacture the chips needed for AI development. TSMC's increasing production capacity and diversification beyond Taiwan reduce its risk of being affected by a potential conflict between Taiwan and mainland China.

Despite ASML's higher valuation, its profit margins may decrease if the AI chip demand falls to pre-peak levels. Currently, Taiwan Semiconductor appears to be the safer investment, but investors should be aware that the Motley Fool's Stock Advisor did not include TSMC in its latest top 10 list.
