Ampem Darkoa Ladies miss out on CAF Champions League qualification after penalty shootout loss

Ampem Darkoa Ladies will miss out on CAF Women’s Champions League qualification for the third consecutive season after a 4-1 penalty shootout defeat to Edo Queens in the final of the WAFU B Women’s Champions League Qualifiers. The Nigerian champions defeated the Ghanaian champions 4-1 on penalties after a 2-2 draw following Beline Nyarko’s brace and an equalizer from Ampem Darkoa Ladies.

Ampem Darkoa took the lead in the game after just three minutes, with Milot Pokuaa setting up Beline Nyarko to score. However, Nigeria responded immediately, scoring within a minute of Nana Mma breaking the deadlock, making it 1-1. Despite holding onto the ball and creating chances in the second half, Ampem Darkoa Ladies’ lead was erased in the 93rd minute when Edo Queens scored to make it 2-2, sending the game into penalties.

Edo Queens converted their three penalty kicks, while Ampem Darkoa failed to score in their first two attempts before Nyarko scored the third. Nigeria converted their fourth penalty to win the match and secure the sole ticket from the region to the CAF Women’s Champions League. This victory marks Edo Queens' second time competing in the tournament since their appearance in 2024.
