Algeria’s football federation appoints new head coach

Algeria's football federation has appointed Brahim Hemdani as the new head coach, replacing Vladimir Petkovic, according to state television. The 48-year-old French-born former Marseille midfielder, who earned two caps for Algeria during his playing days, assumes the position following Petkovic's departure in early August. Despite having limited coaching experience, Hemdani leads the team in the wake of their qualifying for the World Cup knockout stage for the second time in their history. This achievement, however, came to an end with a 2-0 loss to Switzerland in the last 32.
