WOMAD Cape Town 2026: Artscape to host New Generations and United 4 Humanity concerts

WOMAD Cape Town is set to return to the city from September 15 to 24, 2026, offering ten days of music, arts, and dance at various venues across Cape Town. The festival will feature two key concerts at Artscape Theatre: the New Generations afternoon concert and the United 4 Humanity Peace Concert, on September 19. These events will showcase South African and international performers, with a focus on young artists, cultural exchange, inclusion, and the legacy of Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

Dan Chiorboli, WOMAD South Africa festival director, expressed pride in unveiling the most ambitious WOMAD Cape Town series yet, highlighting the explosion of creativity and extraordinary performances. Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis welcomed the festival during Heritage Month, emphasizing the power of music, arts, and culture to bring people together.

The New Generations concert begins at 1:30 pm and features local and international musicians, including a drumming experience for young performers from the Cape Flats. The United 4 Humanity Peace Concert starts at 8 pm, featuring South African artists, Spanish musicians, and Swedish artist Anna Fält. The event will explore the relationship between movement, music, and inclusion, with performers using motion-sensing gloves to manipulate sound.

Artscape CEO Marlene le Roux highlighted the theatre's journey towards inclusivity and the importance of cultural exchange. The Korean Cultural Centre will also host a traditional and contemporary Korean culture experience at Artscape on Friday, September 18.
