Witkoff and Kushner will travel to ‘end’ Russia’s war in Ukraine: Trump

According to Ukrainska Pravda, units of the Ukrainian army were reportedly ordered to cease hostilities from September 5 to 8, 2022. The cessation of fighting was set to commence at midnight on September 5 and would continue until the end of the day on September 8, according to military sources cited by the outlet. However, it is unclear which specific units will observe this order, and no official announcement of a ceasefire has been made by authorities.

As midnight approached in Kyiv, air raid sirens sounded once more, signaling that the Air Force had warned of incoming drones heading toward the city. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had confirmed that U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner would travel to Kyiv on September 6, after also visiting Moscow, as part of Washington's diplomatic efforts to bring an end to Russia's war against Ukraine.

This visit would mark the first time the two envoys had set foot in Ukraine. U.S. President Donald Trump also confirmed that Witkoff and Kushner would be traveling during this weekend for negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, expressing hope that a resolution could be reached. Zelensky pledged that Ukraine would refrain from aerial strikes against Russia during the visit to ensure the safety of the U.S. negotiators, urging Moscow to do the same.

Days earlier, on September 1, the president had warned airlines, insurers, and foreign governments that Russian airspace would be effectively closed due to Ukrainian drone activity. Zelensky emphasized that the Russian skies were becoming "completely dangerous" for commercial flights and foreign governments.
