We’re seeking 30% increment effective September 10 – Transport operators

The Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC) has submitted a proposal for a 30% hike in transport fares, with the proposed adjustments set to commence on September 10, 2026, pending approval. GRTCC General Secretary Emmanuel Ohene revealed that the council has not initiated any fare hikes at present, as they await consultations with the Ministry of Transport following the submission of their proposal.

During an appearance on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Ohene explained that the GRTCC formally presented their request to the Ministry on Thursday, adhering to established protocols. "We delivered the letter to the Ministry on Thursday, and per the established procedures, we are anticipating that they will arrange for discussions regarding the proposal," he stated.

Mr. Ohene clarified that the proposed 30% increment is contingent upon further negotiations between transport operators and the Ministry. "Should they have any grounds to oppose the proposed increment, and both parties present their arguments, then we will determine the subsequent course of action," he added. The GRTCC has emphasized that the 30% adjustment remains a proposal awaiting consideration and engagement with the Transport Ministry, as of now, no increase has been approved or implemented.
