Verdächtiger Gegenstand: Umspannwerk in Dormagen: Polizei spricht von Sabotagedelikt

Police in Dormagen, between Cologne and Düsseldorf, suspect a sabotage crime after finding a suspicious object at an electrical substation. A spokesperson for the Cologne police spoke to the Deutsche Presse-Agentur about the matter. A confession letter was provided, mentioning other suspicious cases in North Rhine-Westphalia and Brandenburg that are already publicly known, the spokesperson said.

The investigation into the suspicious object discovered by a passerby on Thursday evening at the Dormagen substation is still ongoing. It may be a "suspect firing mechanism," the spokesperson said. The police are also checking other substations in surrounding areas to see if similar suspicious objects have been placed there. So far, no damage has been reported, except at the Bergheim substation near Cologne.

On Tuesday, an attack occurred at another substation in Bergheim, where wires were brought onto the overhead line, causing a short circuit. Several firing mechanisms were discovered afterward. A similar incident happened a few hours earlier in South Brandenburg, where near the Jänschwalde power plant, fuel-efficient materials resembling homemade rockets were directed towards high-voltage lines with the help of self-made projectiles.

Over a dozen such devices were found. It is assumed, according to the investigators, that the incidents in Bergheim and Jänschwalde are due to constitutionally hostile sabotage. The newspaper "taz" received a confession letter about the Brandenburg incident, which was sent from North Rhine-Westphalia, according to the poststamp.

The newspaper states that the sender claims to be a single perpetrator, describing the homemade rockets used in detail and citing "unimaginable suffering" caused by the use of fossil fuels as the motive. The "taz" explicitly pointed out that it could not be conclusively determined if the author of the letter is also the perpetrator.
