US says it will break ground soon on Trump arch

The US government announced plans to commence construction on a massive arch, proposed by former President Donald Trump, within the coming weeks. The 250-foot (76-meter) white arch, featuring golden statues of an angel and eagles at the top, is intended to be a centerpiece in a grassy area between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery.

Interior Secretary Doug Burgum confirmed that excavation work would commence over the next two weeks. The arch, situated in a central location of a traffic circle on the Potomac River, has sparked controversy due to the lack of congressional input for such a significant alteration to the nation's capital. Critics argue that the arch would obstruct views between the iconic Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery, a site for the final resting place of thousands of American servicemembers.

Trump, who has recently undertaken numerous renovation projects, has stated that the arch would be one of the Great Pieces of American Architecture, honoring Arlington Cemetery's history and the significance of the capital.
