Ukraine-Krieg: Russische Drohne schlägt in Kiewer Geheimdienstzentrale ein

A Russian drone struck the main building of Ukraine's Security Service, SBU, in the heart of the capital city of Kiev. President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Telegram that the drone targeted the command center of the SBU leader within the building. The Ukrainian President instructed SBU Chief Olexander Poklad to respond to the attack "mirror-image" of Russia.

Following a discussion with Poklad, Zelensky stated that the geographical scope for the response to Russian aggression had been determined, with the timing chosen to ensure results. According to the city administration, at least twelve people were injured during the attack, with damage to the roof and exterior wall. Images circulating on social media showed a hole in a window opening on the second floor of a side wing.

The SBU confirmed the damages and stated that repairs would be undertaken. In response, Russian officials would face intensified covert operations, exposed intelligence networks, and destroyed adversaries, Zelensky claimed. The drone strike also affected the UNESCO World Heritage site, St. Sophia Cathedral, causing window panes to shatter in a 18th-century administrative building.

Other museum complex buildings remained unaffected. Ukraine called for UNESCO and partners to respond, with Foreign Minister Andrij Sybiha describing the attack as a "significant escalation," urging the organization to enhance its efforts to protect Ukraine's vulnerable heritage. Meanwhile, Sybiha noted that the drone attack occurred during a new attempt to resume peace talks mediated by the United States.

US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, along with the son-in-law of former US President Donald Trump, Jared Kushner, reportedly planned to visit Moscow and subsequently Kiew, with plans to hold separate meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Zelensky.
