Uba Sani increases traditional rulers’ salaries, okays security allowances for them

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has approved higher salaries for traditional rulers, including Emirs, Chiefs, district and village heads, across the state. The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) praised the decision, calling it a boon for the traditional institution and its role in fostering peace, security, and grassroots development.

ALGON's chairman, Sheikh Jamilu Abubakar Albani, stated that traditional rulers remain essential collaborators in governance, serving as crucial liaisons between the government and the populace. The governor's action aims to enhance the remuneration of these leaders, thereby motivating them to bolster intelligence gathering, conflict resolution, community mobilization, and overall peace and harmony across the state’s 23 local government areas.

ALGON commended Sani for reinforcing the significance of traditional institutions as partners in his administration's peace-building and development endeavors. The body pledged ongoing cooperation with the state government and other stakeholders to reinforce peace, security, good governance, and sustainable grassroots growth. Furthermore, ALGON urged the traditional rulers to reciprocate by strengthening their collaboration with local government councils and relevant agencies to promote peaceful coexistence, security, and the state's overall development.
