Trump is threatening to cut trade with deficit nations if the Fed won't slash interest rates

US President Donald Trump reiterated his demand on Friday for the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates, citing stronger-than-anticipated job growth in August, which surpassed market predictions. The jobs report revealed that employers added 162,000 jobs, significantly exceeding expectations. Trump proclaimed, "Great jobs number just announced, breaking all estimates (except mine!) by double and triple" and noted, "You haven’t seen anything yet!"

He expressed that a robust economy translates to a lower interest rate, emphasizing that "A STRONG COUNTRY MEANS A LOWER INTEREST RATE - IT’S A BETTER CREDIT." Trump further warned that he has the power to initiate trade actions against nations with significant surpluses against the US if the Federal Reserve fails to lower rates.

He stated, "We should have the LOWEST RATE of any country in the World, like ‘the old days.’" He added, "Without the United States agreeing to allow them their big surpluses, and we could stop that immediately, they would no longer be considered financially ELITE!"

The former president argued that reducing borrowing costs would level the playing field, stating, "Lower the rate or I’ll stop trading with countries with which we have a deficit." He referenced a recent Supreme Court decision, asserting, "the President" has the absolute authority to do so. Trump called on the Federal Reserve board to lower borrowing costs, lamenting that high interest rates place the US at a disadvantage. He urged the Fed to "get smart - BE PATRIOTS for a change."
