Talk about going the extra mile! Meituan food delivery rider flies from China to Singapore for S$13.50 curry puff order

Singapore, September 4 — A Chinese food delivery worker demonstrated an extraordinary dedication to his job by flying all the way from China to Singapore for a single order of six curry puffs, worth S$13.50 (RM43). The unusual delivery took place at PLQ Mall, Hong Lim Curry Puff stall, around 4:30 pm on August 31. The rider, clad in Meituan’s yellow uniform, arrived at the mall’s fourth-floor food court, where Chloe (Xiaohongshu user "Chloe番茄力") noticed him talking to the stall staff.

At first, Chloe thought the rider was struggling with communication and contemplated stepping in to assist. However, once she spotted the Meituan uniform, she realized he was on an official delivery run. Intrigued, Chloe began filming and later interviewed the rider, who explained his customer was Chinese and had ordered the two flavors of curry puffs, which cost just S$13.50.

The rider’s journey to Singapore, however, was far more costly, with his plane ticket priced at approximately 2,400 yuan ($455), about 30 times the value of the food he collected.

The rider declined to disclose the amount of tips he would receive for his cross-border errand. Hong Lim Curry Puff’s founder, Victoria Loh, had visited Hainan for a roadshow in May, which may have introduced the brand to the customer. Loh expressed surprise at the curry puff’s popularity among locals during her trip. For the two-year-old business, the extraordinary delivery served as a testament to the customer’s faith in the product.

While it remains unclear whether the six curry puffs arrived safely in China, one particularly determined customer had a strong desire to taste Singapore’s curry puffs, making the border-crossing journey worthwhile.
