Success of the Qatar Armed Forces in intercepting Iranian missiles and drones does not diminish the gravity of these attacks: Dr. Al Ansari

Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari, advisor to the Prime Minister and official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has criticized the interpretation of the success of Qatar's armed forces in intercepting Iranian missiles and drones. He emphasized that this achievement does not lessen the severity of the attacks nor absolve the perpetrators of accountability.

Dr. Al Ansari highlighted the unfortunate labeling of the assault on Ras Laffan as "alleged," despite its formal documentation in Qatar's letter S/2026/207. He stressed that Ras Laffan and other national assets are integral to Qatar's energy security and the global architecture. Dr. Al Ansari clarified that Qatar is not a party to the conflict and that strikes on its territory, civilian infrastructure, and the endangerment of its population cannot be justified as legitimate responses.

He insisted that such actions violate international law and no selective quote or interpretation can change that reality. Dr. Al Ansari invited Iran to refer to the official record submitted by Qatar to the United Nations instead of quoting selectively from a security risk assessment. He pointed out that this assessment, prepared for the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference, does not constitute a comprehensive factual record or legal evaluation of the events.

Dr. Al Ansari reiterated that it explicitly acknowledges attacks inside Qatar, including the March 18 gas facilities attack in Ras Laffan, and the temporary closure of Qatari airspace. He criticized the selective use of a sentence from this document while ignoring its broader context, which could be misleading. Lastly, Dr. Al Ansari affirmed Qatar's commitment to diplomatic efforts and peaceful resolution of differences to de-escalate tensions and promote security and stability in the region.
