Stromversorgung: Reul: SEK stürmt Fahrzeug des Sabotage-Verdächtigen

NRW-Innenminister Herbert Reul announced that the police stormed the vehicle of a man suspected of multiple sabotage attempts against Germany's power supply infrastructure. The incident took place in Niederzier near Düren, North Rhine-Westphalia. Reul stated that the individual was likely on foot and would not travel far. The vehicle had been found in a forest, according to Markus Gemünd, director of the State Protection Department in North Rhine-Westphalia's Interior Ministry.

A special operations team stormed the vehicle, but the man was not found inside. Police are now searching the vehicle for traces, and previously, Reul had reported finding explosives in the 48-year-old suspect's apartment in Gevelsberg. He emphasized that the sender does not necessarily have to be the responsible party and that there are no more indicators that the man is particularly dangerous.

The author's letter was deemed authentic by Reul, but he also warned that merely having one's name mentioned does not make one the responsible party. Reul stated that they are investigating whether the author acted alone or had accomplices. Two letters were found in the name of the sought individual from Gevelsberg, in which he claimed responsibility for recent attacks on the energy grid in Brandenburg and North Rhine-Westphalia.

Explosives and pyrotechnics were discovered near the Umspannwerk in Dormagen between Cologne and Düsseldorf, and at the Kraftwerk Weisweiler near Aachen and an Umspannwerk in Eschweiler, following leads from a confession letter. The incident is being investigated as politically motivated sabotage.
