Smart ready for immediate deployment to flood-hit Nepal, says deputy minister

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 4 — Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni has confirmed that the Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (Smart) is prepared for immediate deployment to Nepal following a devastating flood. During a visit to the Embassy of Nepal, Lukanisman reiterated the government's stance on the matter.

The Foreign Ministry, also known as Wisma Putra, posted on Facebook that Lukanisman also expressed prayers and deepest sympathies to the Government and people of Nepal, especially the affected family members. He signed a Book of Condolence during the visit. Nepal's Chargé d’Affaires ad interim Mudita Bajracharya thanked the deputy minister for the condolences and acknowledged the government of Malaysia's financial support.

Over 1,200 people were killed and more than 4,200 remain missing after the flood near the Nepal-China border on August 26.
