Sindh Assembly adopts resolution against division of province amid opposition boycott

Karachi's Sindh Assembly passed a resolution on Thursday, rejecting all attempts to fragment the province or establish new administrative divisions, in the face of a strong protest and boycott from the opposition. Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah affirmed that "there will be no compromise on Sindh’s geographical unity". The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) and Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) withdrew from the assembly immediately after the Opposition Leader Ali Khurshidi's speech on the adjournment motion, stating they were boycotting the proceedings due to the treasury party's refusal to integrate three points proposed by the MQM-P.

The resolution emphasized that any proposal, plan or constitutional arrangement attempting to divide Sindh, change its existing territorial boundaries, or create new provinces within its territory was unequivocally rejected. The House also rejected plans to place any part of the province under separate or federal administrative arrangements, calling on the federal government, parliament, all political parties, and all state institutions to respect the democratic wishes of Sindh's people.

The chief minister had earlier emphasized that any attempt to alter Sindh's boundaries without the consent of its elected assembly was unacceptable and unconstitutional.
