Shettima mourns Emir of Gumel, says death huge loss

Vice President Kashim Shettima has mourned the death of the Emir of Gumel, Alhaji Ahmed Muhammad-Sani II, calling it a tremendous loss to Jigawa State and Nigeria. On Friday, he conveyed President Bola Tinubu's and the Federal Government's condolences to the royal family in a statement. The late Emir, the 16th ruler of Gumel, passed away on September 3, 2026, after reigning for 46 years, starting from December 16, 1980.

Shettima praised the monarch for his unwavering commitment to peace, education, Islamic scholarship, and community development throughout his lengthy reign. He described the Emir as a father, bridge-builder, and stabilizing voice, emphasizing that his passing leaves behind a rich legacy of history, experience, and institutional memory.

The Vice President affirmed that President Tinubu held the late monarch in high regard, particularly for his contributions to peacebuilding and community development. Shettima emphasized that the Federal Government regards traditional institutions as vital partners in fostering national unity and stability. He prayed for the forgiveness of the late monarch's shortcomings, acceptance of his good deeds, and the ability of his family, the Emirate, and Jigawa State to bear the irreplaceable loss.
