Serena and Venus Williams return to U.S. Open women's doubles tournament tonight

Serena and Venus Williams are set to play together in the U.S. Open women's doubles tournament at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York tonight, marking their first collaboration in four years. The sisters face off against Maya joint and Hao-ching Chan, the No. 14-seeded team. This match comes after Serena's recent loss to Joint at Wimbledon this summer, where the 44-year-old Williams suffered a knee injury and had to withdraw from a doubles match alongside Venus.

The sisters have a strong track record, with two U.S. Open women's doubles titles in 1999 and 2009, and a winning percentage of 27-7 in their nine appearances. Their last joint appearance at the tournament was in 2022, where they lost in the first round, raising concerns about Serena's final match in Flushing Meadows. Venus Williams, 46, bowed out of her 26th singles appearance at Flushing Meadows, losing to fellow American wild card Sofia Kenin in straight sets.

The 15th consecutive singles defeat for Venus began after her last victory in Washington in July 2025. Despite facing a challenging night match against the Williams sisters, local tennis star Bethanie Mattek-Sands believes they will be intimidated by the Williams sisters' prowess, especially in front of the New York crowd.
