Some cover against average hail, while others protect against larger ice balls up to 6 centimeters in diameter. The maximum deceleration speed to prevent damage is another crucial factor. Thicker and bulkier padding usually indicates a higher level of protection.

Prices range from 35 euros to several hundred, but price shouldn't be the primary consideration. The effectiveness of protection is more important, depending on the expected weather and the hail risk in your location. Some products have TÜV Austria certification. When choosing Hagel protection, ensure it's in place when the hail arrives.

Current hail warnings can be checked via weather apps like the "Warnwetter" app (iOS/Android) from the German Weather Service, available for free with some premium features. Keep the car clean to avoid scratches during the installation of heavy panels. Parking on public roads isn't allowed if side mirrors or number plates are covered.

Always ensure your car is parked in a way that it's clearly visible at night. While Hagel protection can't prevent minor damages, comprehensive car insurance usually covers hail damage, requiring only a deductible payment.
