S. Korea to provide blankets, other emergency relief supplies to Nepal flood victims

Seoul announced on Friday that South Korea will send an additional 130 million won worth of emergency relief supplies to aid flood victims in Nepal. The supplies, including 36,000 thermal blankets and 2,320 heavy-duty versions, are set to arrive in the country via commercial flight on Saturday. This comes after South Korea initially pledged $1 million in humanitarian aid following devastating floods and landslides in Nepal's Rasuwa District, near the Nepal-Tibet border, on August 26.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies will distribute the aid, which includes drinking water, first-aid, hygiene kits, and basic health supplies to those affected. Over 1,200 people have died in the disaster, with nearly 6,000 still missing, including nine South Koreans. A Korea Disaster Relief Team has been dispatched to assist with search and rescue operations.

The government has pledged to maintain communication with the Nepalese government and explore additional ways to provide necessary assistance to those impacted.
