Russian jet-powered drone strikes Kyiv SBU headquarters, injuring nine

Ukraine has introduced a two-tier air raid alert system to cope with Russia's frequent drone attacks, Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi announced on September 3rd. The new system categorizes threats with yellow for drone attacks and red for a heightened risk of missile or combined strikes. Under a yellow alert, designated businesses can continue operating if they meet safety requirements.

However, a red alert would mandate the halting of operations and the evacuation of individuals to shelters. Russian forces have been relentlessly striking Ukrainian cities with drones and other long-range weapons, significantly disrupting civilian life and economic activity.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Russia of employing mass drone assaults to degrade civilian life and economic operations. He contended that the existing method of alerting to all aerial threats is no longer suitable for Russia's evolving tactics. The new alert system will be implemented weekly by the General Staff, the Air Force, the government, the Defense Ministry, the Interior Ministry, and the State Emergency Service. They will establish specific criteria for declaring each level.

Still to be determined are the geographic targets for alerts and which businesses will be permitted to remain open under a yellow alert. The government is still finalizing these details. This approach aims to allow economic activities to continue during drone threats while maintaining stricter measures for more severe attacks.
