Red Cross pledges continued support for flood-hit Nepal

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) pledges to maintain its support for flood-affected Nepal. President Mirjana Spoljaric of the ICRC met with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa to discuss promoting international humanitarian law in conflict zones. In 2024, the ICRC joined a global initiative with South Africa, Brazil, China, and Jordan to strengthen political commitment to international humanitarian law.

Spoljaric highlighted the dire situation in Nepal, noting the need for extensive forensic expertise and material support for recovery and identification efforts. So many lives have been lost, with many still missing, and the ICRC is actively assisting National Societies in the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement to reunite families and locate the unaccounted for.
