Punjab Announces Major Action After Poor 9th Class Results

The Education Department in Punjab is contemplating downgrading numerous schools in response to disappointing ninth-grade results and a decline in matriculation enrollment. Schools with fewer than 20 registered students in the matric class are currently under scrutiny, with the possibility of reverting them to middle-school status.

In Lahore, Government High School Saint Francis New Anarkali has fewer than 10 students enrolled in the matric class, while Government Pakistan Model School Rehmanpura has less than 20 registered students. Government High School Sant Nagar is also experiencing a lack of matric students. The Education Department reported that hundreds of schools across Punjab have matric enrollment below 20.

If the high-school status is removed, matric students from these schools would be transferred to nearby schools. Lahore Chief Executive Officer Education Tariq Mahmood stated that stringent measures will be implemented against schools with poor ninth-grade results. Schools with results below 30 percent have been requested to justify their performance.
