PTA Gives Conditional Approval for Ufone-Telenor Rebranding

The rebranding of the merged Ufone-Telenor mobile operation is anticipated after receiving regulatory clearance, according to sources within the PTCL Group speaking to ProPakistani. However, the exact date for the official launch remains undisclosed. At the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), officials disclosed that the regulator has granted conditional approval for the rebranding, contingent upon the completion of all essential legal procedures.

They also noted that the authority is not aware of any scheduled event to announce the rebranding on September 15 and has not received confirmation regarding the date. The Ufone-Telenor consolidation has been finalized under Pak Telecom Mobile Limited (PTML), integrating their spectrum assets, network infrastructure, and customer base into a unified mobile operation.

The unified business currently caters to over 74 million subscribers nationwide. Post the merger, management suggested replacing the existing Ufone and Telenor Pakistan branding with the global "e&" trademark. PTA's endorsement reportedly necessitates PTML to inform the regulator upon fulfilling the requisite legal requisites and prior to instituting any commercial or promotional campaign under the new identity.

The proposed rebranding had earlier been postponed due to legal and corporate governance concerns related to the approval process. While "e&" is the proposed identity for the combined enterprise, PTML has yet to officially disclose the definitive brand name, launch date, or transition scheme for Ufone and Telenor clientele.
