Police arrest 79 suspects, recover weapons, drugs in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has apprehended 79 individuals and seized dangerous weapons and illicit drugs amid security operations conducted during the 2026 Takutaba celebration. The festivities occurred on September 1st and proceeded without incident across the state. This was a result of intelligence-led and proactive security measures put in place prior to, during, and after the event.

The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed that the enforcement efforts were carried out by the command's tactical units, including Anti-Daba, Anti-Kidnapping, and VCRU units, along with personnel from the Ungogo, Sharada, Bachirawa, Rijiyar Lemo, Mandawari, Kwalli, and Gwale police divisions. The operations aimed to ensure the success of the celebration.

According to a statement from CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the state command's spokesman, the suspects were taken into custody for various alleged offenses, though the specific charges were not disclosed. The recovered items included dangerous weapons and illicit drugs. These suspects are currently under investigation and will be charged to court following the conclusion of the investigation.

Bakori expressed gratitude to residents for their peaceful conduct and cooperation with the security agencies before, during, and after the celebration.
